This weekend seems to be raising doubts on security for both iOS and Android as well, having just now covered a security flaw on the iPhone 5 (follow here ).
Google Play Store now has raised eyebrows regarding a big security threat to all its users, by providing their intricate information to developers, calling it a part of their Playstore policy. Looking at the bigger picture rather than going into the EULA terms, Google is basically giving your residential address, telephone number, and email addresses.
Australlian developer Dan Nolan broke news on his blog that people who bought his application from the Play Store and agreed to the terms of play store and Google Wallet service, not only used his application, but also provided their personal information to the dev.
Now the concern is, not all the developers may be good at heart to make their customers aware of what they are getting into by purchasing the app. This “policy” by now would have magnetically attracted many notorious application developers to cause harm to people who are unaware of all these issues and are simply downloading the applications trusting that Google won’t cause any threat.
The question is, if Google itself is compromising the security of the users, then rather remove the option of “Allow Installation Of Non-Market apps”.
